About Martyn Blair

Integrative counselling and supervision in North Coventry

A practical, warm approach

I'm a counsellor and clinical supervisor based in North Coventry. Before entering counselling, I spent 35 years in the building industry, including working as a quantity surveyor and managing director of a construction firm.

That experience shaped my practical, down-to-earth approach. Alongside my professional counselling training and NHS experience, it helps me connect with people from different backgrounds and understand that everyone's circumstances are different.

I aim to offer a warm, accepting space where we can explore what's troubling you, at your pace and without judgement.

My Journey

I began my counselling journey in 2008 as a person-centred counsellor. I spent seven rewarding years as an IAPT therapist in the NHS. After I left the NHS, I focused on private practice.

A unique mix of practicality and an ability to connect with people.

I spent 35 years in the building industry, beginning my career as a quantity surveyor. Later, I became the Managing Director of a medium-sized construction firm. My background gives me a unique and special viewpoint, helping me to connect with n attention to detail and in a down to earth approach

.... and I care

I care deeply about the well-being of those I work with. I strive to make a positive impact on their lives.

My Counselling Approach

I view the person-centred approach as a way of life to aspire to live by both in the counselling room and elsewhere in my life

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

― Carl R. Rogers, On Becoming a Person: A Therapist's View of Psychotherapy

The counselling relationship

I believe that meaningful change grows from a relationship in which you feel heard, accepted and able to be yourself.

I won't simply sit quietly and expect you to do all the work. I'll listen carefully, share what I'm noticing when it feels helpful, and be open and honest with you. We can explore difficult feelings and experiences together, without losing sight of what matters to you.

My role isn't to tell you how to live your life, but to work alongside you as you develop a better understanding of yourself and find your own way forward.

Integrative Counselling

I have integrated other techniques into my work, offering them when it seems appropriate and with the client's agreement.
