Finding a new perspective together

Children and Young People’s Counselling

Childhood and adolescence can be exciting, confusing and emotionally demanding times. As children grow and develop, they are faced with many changes — emotionally, physically and socially — while still relying on the important adults around them for support and security.

Young people today can experience pressures from school, friendships, exams, family changes, social media, identity, peer influence and worries about the wider world. Sometimes these experiences can leave a child or teenager feeling anxious, overwhelmed, withdrawn, angry, low in confidence or unsure how to express what is happening inside.

Childrens counselling can provide a safe and supportive space where young people are able to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace. Counselling may help when a child or teenager is:

Safe and Supportive Space

I offer child and adolescent counselling for children and teenagers experiencing anxiety, low confidence, school stress, emotional difficulties and relationship challenges.

My approach is person-centred, which means I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change. When a young person feels emotionally safe and accepted, they are often better able to make sense of their experiences, understand their feelings and begin developing healthier ways of coping.

Every child is unique, so I work flexibly and creatively according to the young person’s age, personality and developmental stage. Some children communicate more easily through talking, while others may find it easier to express themselves through creative methods.

Depending on what feels most helpful, sessions may include:

  • Talking therapy
  • Sand tray work and miniatures
  • Picture and emotion cards
  • Storytelling
  • Creative play and games
  • Drawing and creative materials

Creative approaches can help children and young people communicate feelings that may be difficult to put into words. They can also support emotional awareness, confidence, resilience and self-expression in ways that feel natural and accessible.

I'm so stressed

How do I cope with all these pressures?

Working with Parents and Carers

I understand the importance of working sensitively and ethically with both young people and their families. Where appropriate, I work collaboratively with parents and carers to help them understand the counselling process, while always keeping the child’s wellbeing at the centre of the work.

This can be especially helpful where there are concerns around anxiety, confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour, relationships or family change.

Experience and Approach

I have experience working with young people, including counselling children within a school setting, and understand the challenges young people can face both emotionally and socially. My aim is to provide a consistent, supportive relationship where children and adolescents can feel safe enough to explore difficult feelings, develop emotional resilience and feel less alone in what they are experiencing.

Counselling can help young people to:

  • Develop confidence and self-esteem
  • Better understand emotions and reactions
  • Build resilience and coping strategies
  • Improve communication and relationships
  • Feel more secure and emotionally supported
  • Develop greater self-awareness and self-acceptance
