Counselling Phsychotherapy Supervision

Supervision in Coventry for Counsellors, Therapists and Leaders

Introduction

Supervision is a supportive and reflective space where counsellors and psychotherapists can explore their work, maintain good practice, and take care of their own wellbeing.

I offer person-centred supervision in Coventry, providing a professional yet compassionate space where you can grow, feel understood, and continue to develop in your role.

What is supervision?

Supervision is an essential part of sustaining good practice as a counsellor or therapist, manager or safeguarding lead. It provides a regular space to reflect, explore challenges, and ensure your work remains effective, ethical, and safe. It also helps you maintain the personal resilience needed to support others.

As the BACP Ethical Framework (2018) states:

“Supervision is essential to how practitioners sustain good practice throughout their working life.”

Every participant in supervision brings their own approach, shaped by training, philosophy, and experience.

Why Supervision Matters?

Almost all therapeutic and management settings benefit from regular supervision. This may take the form of:

  • Management supervision – usually within organisations, focusing on performance, workload, and responsibilities.

  • Clinical or supportive supervision – a reflective space with a trained supervisor, helping you explore your practice, wellbeing, and ethical decision-making without managerial power dynamics.

When supervision is purely a requirement or feels like a “tick-box exercise,” it can lose its value. I see it differently: good supervision should feel supportive and restorative. I often liken it to a pillow – a little squashed after a hard night’s work, but with some care, plumped back up and ready for what’s next.

My approach to supervision

My supervision practice is grounded in person-centred values of empathy, authenticity, and respect. I believe you are the expert in your work, and my role is to provide a supportive space to reflect, explore, and strengthen your practice.

I mainly supervise person-centred therapists but also work with counsellors from other modalities. Over time, supervision becomes less about teaching and more about two professionals sharing insight and experience.

The Three Core Roles of Supervision

  • Gatekeeper – maintaining professional standards, compliance, and safeguarding.
  • Educator – especially important at the student stage, when learning is central.
  • Colleague – as the relationship develops, supervision becomes a meeting of equals, where experience and insight are shared both ways.

  • Initial assessment session – sometimes online before meeting in person

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework.
